My place is close to the most lively music scene in the city, just a block away on Frenchmen Street, and 3 blocks from the edge of the French Quarter. You'll experience all the excitement downtown New Orleans has to offer, and come back to a peaceful and restful environment when you've had your fill of music, food, and drink. My place is good for families and groups, and since you'll have the whole space, you won't be disturbing anyone if your group is up late. The Royal Elysian guesthouse is within an 1840's era brick masonry building, one of the oldest structures in the neighborhood. The building was originally a bakery store on the ground level for nearly 100 years, with living space above. The building was fully restored in 2015, and received a 2016 Award of Excellence in Historic Preservation from the Louisiana Landmark Society. We are excited to welcome you to enjoy the space as we have enjoyed bringing it back to life! The guesthouse is on the second floor, while the first floor is our lovely little Thai restaurant, which closes at 10pm. A small manager's office is also on the second floor, with a separate access door from the BnB. We have 5 bedrooms with 5 high quality queen beds, and one queen sofa bed. The sofa bed is located in the dining / kitchen area, and is used as overflow is used as overflow sleeping area. There are 2 bathrooms, which are located in the hallways connected to the bedrooms. The bathrooms are for the use of your Bnb unit only, and cannot be accessed from outside your unit. You may see some reviews indicating the bathrooms are outside the unit. We recently renovated the space to add a 5th bedroom, and to bring the bathrooms within the unit, so the bathrooms are now completely accessible from your private hallway. The guesthouse is on the second floor, while the first floor is our Thai restaurant, SukhoThai, which closes at 10pm. Restaurant management will occasionally access the small office upstairs through a separate entrance. Guests will have a separate entrance from the business, available to use any time of day or night, and will need to access the rooms by stairs, so unfortunately we do not have an accessible entrance for wheelchairs. Entry is by keypad and a key is also available. The bedrooms do not have a private bathrooms. The 2 bathrooms are in the hallway connecting all bedrooms. These bathrooms are for your use only, and are within your secured Bnb unit, not accessible to anyone outside the unit. Each is equipped with shower, toilet and lavatory. We provide towels, soap and shampoo in the bedrooms for guest use. Some previous reviews have been written indicating that the bathrooms are outside the unit. That was prior to a recent renovation, and now the bathrooms are inside the unit. The living room / kitchen is just for the guesthouse, and is equipped with microwave, coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator, dishwasher, dining table and other seating. We do not have a stove for cooking on the premises. We generally stock the kitchen with some light breakfast options for our guests. We also provide slippers for use in the rooms and hall so that shoes can be left in front of the bedroom. We will be available to help with anything you need during your stay, and will typically have someone on site until 11:30pm most nights. Outside of that time, we will be nearby to assist with any issues you may have, just a short phone call away. Marigny is an historic neighborhood along the New Orleans riverfront, just downriver from the French Quarter. The Royal Elysian is just a block away from the most lively jazz music scene, Frenchmen Street, where you'll find Three Muses, The Spotted Cat, Snug Harbor, DBA, Blue Nile, and many more. We are also just three blocks from the edge of the French Quarter, but far enough to get away from the hustle and bustle. A 15 minute walk will take you to Jackson Square, the center of the French Quarter. A few blocks walk to the riverfront will bring you to Crescent Park, with dramatic views of the downtown skyline amid remnants of the old working wharves, and a few blocks walk in the other direction will take you to the new Rampart Streetcar line. Within a three block radius of our Guesthouse, you'll find numerous restaurants and coffee shops with old New Orleans charm. Much to explore and enjoy! Our Guesthouse is very close and convenient to get around the historic areas of the city. You can rent a bike from A Bicycle Named Desire just across the way and join a tour or explore the beautiful Marigny/Bywater area on your own, or ride 15 minutes down picturesque Esplanade Avenue's bike paths to the oaks and bayous of City Park. Bus stops in front of our building will take you to Canal Street and the Aquarium of the Americas, or take you to the Lake Pontchartrain and the University of New Orleans lakefront campus. Walk a few blocks to the new Rampart Streetcar Line, where you can ride to the Canal Street shopping district, the Louisiana Superdome, and the Greyhound/Amtrak terminal, or you can connect to the St. Charles Avenue line to tour the stately mansions and universities of the Garden District/Uptown. You can also walk six or so blocks to the Riverfront streetcar line which reaches Harrah's casino, the Riverwalk Outlet Mall, and the Convention Center. We have only street parking, but it is not so difficult to find a place to park.
